Once lived Annette Wood, She was a youthful girl with long wavy luscious golden hair, Annette had bright blue eyes such as the color of the wild sea on a windy day. Her face freckles made an obscure shape, speckled across her cheeks. Annette was slimly shaped with her skin the color of silica. She was an adventurer; as were her ancestors, the Woods. Annette grew up on a small tropical island with her parents and relatives. They call it Rosewood. The island Rosewood was full of neon exotic trees and flowers, taking up almost all of the living population. The clearing of the bush is big enough for a small village. There are about 27 shacks made up out of bamboo and flax ties. It was a small windy island with a big community of love.
No one on the island of Rosewood had DARED to travel past the barrier reef. The sea was rough and dangerous, well that is what had been carved into Annette's mind. Only strong men who have been skillfully trained by the first man to travel outside of the safe zone were allowed to pass, but even then no one wants to risk losing their life. Horrific stories have been extensively passed around - whisper by whisper - scaring the children knowing to keep away from the water. Annette thinks of the stories and legends day and night, wondering how the deep salty sea would drench her in a coat of freedom, what type of mysterious creatures have not been discovered yet? She thought of how many ways she could be the next Samuel Stillman. How many interesting adventures she would sail if she had access or enough courage. “Only if it was safe..” she pondered on the shore while scuffing up the sand in boredom.
‘Tomorrow is a new day she thought to herself, dozing off to sleep. A few hours later Annette woke up, she slowly emerged her head from her pillow peeking around through the cracks of the bamboo wall. She had felt unusual. Everybody was asleep, it was dark and windy outside yet she had a burning urge to escape her bed. She thought of it almost as a sign, a message if you must. Annette didn't trust herself, she lay awake staring at the ceiling wondering why her mind would not shut down. She knew something out there was giving her a signal. Annette lifted the blankets aside and stuck one leg onto the ground. She knew she had to be quiet and that was making her even more anxious. Tiptoeing towards the door she could almost make some shapes to see where she was going, the thought of her walking like a headless chicken made her giggle in the slightest. As she reached for the doorknob the faintest “ CREEEAAAAKK “ noise surrounded the village. Annette quickly threw her head back to check if her mother was still asleep. “ Of course it had to creak when the wind is calm” she spoke under her breath angrily.
Annette took a deep breath and sunk her feet into the moist ground. She felt like she was getting closer to freedom. The wind had picked up causing her to shrivel in her skin creating goosebumps from head to toe. She creeped out of the village and followed the stone path down to the shore; where the boatmen kept their fishing canoes. She glanced around at the setting noticing the sunrise peeking over the mountain. This was the perfect time to escape she thought. She felt guilt and a little bit of hesitation. Annette ran towards the boats, she geared up and took one last look across her village. She pushed her boat into the shallow and hopped in wiping off the sea salt covered on her legs. “ There's no going back now “ she whispered to herself
